Fleet graphics nominations for this year’s CCJ's Five Flashiest Fleets competition included a lot of color, a lot support for causes and awareness campaigns, and some simplified designs that pull an entire package together.
Since 1978, CCJ has been pleased to recognize excellence in fleet graphics design and execution. The judges for this year’s competition included the editorial staff from CCJ and its sister-publications Overdrive and Trucks, Parts, Service. Each judge scored all submissions on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, and scores were averaged to determine a final ranking.
5. Champion Tire and Wheel
"Go fast. Turn left." Any race fan has likely heard that before, but it's rare that the people behind the scenes get much attention... unless your rigs are super-flashy. But when you're flying around an oval at nearly 200 mph, a fancy paint job is the last thing on your mind.
"It comes down to confidence," said Tim Carpenter, operations manager for Cornelius, North Carolina-based Champion Tire and Wheel. "NASCAR teams rely on our dependability and precision with their tires, wheels, and equipment in order to race every weekend. When that last set of tires goes on the car with a couple of laps to go they know Champion gave them the right tools to succeed."
Why we liked it
Champion’s trailers are both eye-catching and immediately communicative. Each design makes good use of space, shape and color to maximize brand identity, be it Champion itself or another brand. The trailers each look like a premium product with quality materials and well-thought-out design, elevating Champion’s image. – Beth Colvin, Associate Editor, Trucks, Parts, Service
4. J&R Schugel
The trailer graphics at New Ulm, Minnesota-based J&R Schugel showcase the values and milestones that define the truckload carrier. "Each design tells a unique part of our story: our 50th-anniversary trailer honors the legacy and hard work of our team over five decades; our military-wrapped truck shows deep gratitude and respect for veterans; and our breast cancer support truck raises awareness for a cause close to the hearts of many in our community," said Tony Helget, marketing coordinator. "Together, these wraps reflect our commitment to community, service, and the people who make us who we are."
Why we liked it
J&R Schugel rocks the road with its striking tractors and understated trailers. The company logo pops against the cobalt body that exemplifies the company’s brand with the alliterative three Bs: Big, bold & blue. Big pay changes. Bold moves. Blue trucks. (The company even boasts its own clothing line, “Blu Crew” apparel). Even when the company steers away from its signature blue paint job in favor of representing causes near and dear to its heart, like breast cancer awareness, the bold remains. – Angel Coker, Senior Editor, CCJ
3. S.S. Skikos Trucking
A tough rate environment. Inflation. Wonky consumer spending habits. A volatile political transition. The world is a serious place, but not everything has to be serious (or boring).
"The message is to bring smiles and joy to people that see the fleet," said Shad Skikos, owner of Santa Rosa, California, hauler Skikos Trucking. Skikos' fleet is home to several trucks that look like everything from fighter jets to dinosaurs and everything in between. "It has been common for people to ask 'what's next' or to 'collect' trucks they have seen and discuss which ones they have seen on the road and which they haven't. By having such a wide and varied fleet it also allows everyone to have their favorite."
Why we liked it
All their designs, as varied and assorted as they are, are just fun. It's proof you don't have to always go with a blanket color and design scheme so people will recognize your trucks and your brand. I guarantee when people see a truck that looks like a dinosaur, they know exactly who it belongs to. And those who don't will see it and never forget it. – Jason Cannon, Editor, CCJ
2. GFP Mobile Mix
Based in Wilmington, Delaware, GFP Mobile Mix Supply's custom-branded fleet of 11 volumetric concrete mixer trucks serves as a powerful symbol of the company's love for its country, "and our deep respect for those who have served and continue to serve," said Marketing Director Diana Gonzalez. Adorned with patriotic graphics, the company's trucks not only stand out on the streets and highways but also embody the company's commitment to honoring the sacrifices made for our freedom.
"Concrete is the foundation of America, and just as this essential material supports our buildings and structures, our fleet is crucial in delivering consistent, high-quality products to our customers," Gonzalez said. "As our trucks travel through neighborhoods and along busy highways, they’ve become a recognizable presence – a moving tribute to our core belief: Home of the Free because of the Brave. With every mile, we proudly showcase our dedication to both our craft and our country."
Why we liked it
GFP Mobile Mix takes its logo, which features an American flag and a bald eagle, to a whole new level with the patriotic graphics on this truck. The graphics serve as an extension of the company logo, with the eagle flying through the flag on the cab, and the eagle and flag graphics on the mobile mixer. The combination of these elements screams patriotism, making the truck truly stand out. – Matt Cole, News Editor, Overdrive and CCJ
1. R.E. Garrison
R.E. Garrison developed the R.E. Garrison Benefit Fleet — the fleet that cares – in 2018 and dedicated its Benefit Fleet to the causes that matter to its community and trucking family. "This initiative was created with the belief that trucking is more than tractors and trailers, but the causes that unite the transportation industry," said Taylor Foshee Title, engagement support for the north Alabama trucking company. "At its core, the R.E. Garrison Benefit Fleet travels across the country while not only hauling freight but connecting with those who have a story to tell. We work each day to remain a beacon of light in the industry by doing what matters most to the people that matter most – we are stronger together, and we always will be."
Why we liked it

Garrison brings visibility to important causes, turning fleets to opportunities for social impact. By thoughtfully integrating these messages, R.E. Garrison not only boosts brand recognition but also connects with communities. – Pamella De Leon, Senior Editor, CCJ
