Maxion Wheels, Monday at the Technology and Maintenance Council Fall Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition in Cleveland, debuted its 64 pound steel truck wheel – the lightest standard five-hole 22.5x8.25 commercial vehicle steel wheel in the market. The company unveiled the wheel concept in late 2019, and Monday announced that it's now in production from Maxion’s San Luis PotosĂ, Mexico, commercial vehicle steel wheels plant.
With a 7,400 lb. payload wheel load rating, the wheel features a new hand hole design, which deviates from the traditional Maxion Wheels’ D-shape. The new shape is the result of design optimization analysis that the company claims reduced wheel structural stresses by more than 10%, resulting in a more efficient and durable wheel when compared to the previous generation.
"Improved fuel efficiency, fewer emissions and an increase in payload are just a few of the benefits that come from the lighter wheel," said Zeferino Neto, president of the Americas business unit for Maxion Wheels. "Multiply that by 18 and you have a very smart investment in your total cost of ownership.”
