Massachusetts, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington are among the top states where truckers most often reported a lack of truck parking. That’s according to Trucker Path’s recent release of parking statistics, reported between September 2025 and June 2026 by drivers who use the platform, which provides truck-specific navigation, including real-time free and reserved parking availability.
The top states in which drivers most often reported available parking include South Dakota, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Iowa, Wyoming and Louisiana.
"Given the ongoing shortage of available safe truck parking, having drivers rank and report on parking is helpful to everyone," said Trucker Path Chief Marketing Officer Chris Oliver. "We support the latest efforts by the federal government to fund more parking for trucks and keep the professional drivers who are vital to our economy safe and well rested while hauling the nation’s freight."

Despite Trucker Path’s data pointing out that Wyoming and Louisiana had more available parking compared to most other states, those two states were recently awarded Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants for planning and feasibility studies.
Wyoming was awarded $1.4 million to develop a comprehensive Winter Truck Parking Action Plan to address emergency parking options for severe weather instances, and Louisiana was awarded $640,000 to study parking demand and opportunities to expand parking at publicly owned sites.
These small amounts were part of a larger BUILD funding announcement from U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy earlier this month in which Kentucky, Mississippi and Illinois received larger sums, specifically to address truck parking. The amount totaled $62 million across the five states.
"Truck parking has long been a critical industry issue, and recent federal funding awarded to five states reflects growing recognition of the problem. We believe these findings will provide valuable insights for drivers and government officials alike," Oliver said. "Interestingly, none of the five states receiving federal funding appeared on our lists of states with the most or least available truck parking."
Illinois ranked among the top states with the most ramp parking events, according to Altitude by Geotab’s annual study of interstate ramp parking.
Drivers and motor carriers have consistently reported truck parking among their top concerns. It’s a matter that has landed on the American Transportation Research Institute’s (ATRI) Top Industry Issues list for 11 consecutive years, as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration estimates that the U.S. has roughly one dedicated parking space for every 11 commercial trucks on the road.
According to the American Trucking Associations, the average driver loses nearly $7,000 annually spending time looking for parking or cutting drive time short in the hopes of finding an available parking space.
