Some truck rides are hard to bear, especially this one.
A popular black bear in central California unwittingly hitched a ride on a trash truck recently and later led officers on a chase through a dump site and nearby neighborhood.
The Associated Press reports that the foraging bear had gotten into a Hume Lake dumpster which was later picked up by a garbage truck.
Following a 65 mile ride to a Fresno dump, the 1-year-old bear emerged from the truck and was eventually captured by authorities with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Fresno police. A tranquilizer was used.
“When I dumped the container, I saw all of the employees running,” the truck’s driver, KC, tells Reuters in a video recalling the hairy adventure. “I was like, ‘This is not real. A bear in Fresno!'”
Neither the bear or anyone involved in its capture was injured. The bear was returned to Hume Lake where its fondly known as Cinnamon. No word yet on whether or not the bear has dined-out again at the dumpster.
