Ruan elected vice chairman of U.S. Chamber

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce named John Ruan III as its vice chairman for 2010 in a June 9 election by the board. Ruan is chairman and chief executive officer of Ruan Transport Corp. in Des Moines, Iowa. He also serves as director and chairman of Iowa Export-Import Trading Co. and the World Food Prize Foundation; director, chairman and president of City Center Corp.; director of Seven Hundred Grand Association; trustee of John Ruan Foundation Trust; and director, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Ruan Center Corp. and Ruan Inc.

Outside of the transportation business, Ruan is director, chairman, president and CEO of bank holding company BTC Financial Corp. and serves as chairman and director for the bank subsidiary, Bankers Trust Company NA. He also serves as director of Hubbell Realty Co., Iowa Business Council, Greater Des Moines Partnership, Downtown Community Alliance and Chief Executives Organization. He is trustee of Culver Educational Foundation and past chairman of The Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization and The Greater Des Moines YMCA.
