If you plan to travel through Renton on Interstate 405 the second weekend in July, the Washington State Department of Transportation says you need to rethink your route. Crews will fully close both directions of I-405 between State Route 167 and the Maple Valley Highway (State Route 169) beginning 2 a.m. Saturday, July 10, for a bridge demolition. All lanes will reopen by 11 a.m. Sunday, July 11.
WSDOT says that during this 33-hour closure, crews will remove the old Benson S Bridge as part of the I-405 Renton Stage 2 Widening project. To safely remove the structure, crews need to completely close I-405 in Renton to tear down and haul off the old bridge.
