The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance is encouraging all jurisdictions throughout North America to begin enforcement of the Unified Carrier Registration for the 2010 registration year to begin effective Thursday, July 15. Forty-one states are participating in UCR for the 2010 calendar/registration year and will serve as UCR base states.

All motor carriers – for-hire, private and exempt – as well as brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies operating in interstate or international commerce are subject to the UCR. Entities based in Canada and Mexico that are involved in interstate or international commerce in the United States also are subject to UCR.

“Revenue generated from UCR helps fund safety and enforcement programs, which in turn goes a long way to ensuring safer roads and saving lives,” says Stephen A. Keppler, CVSA interim executive director.
