FedEx Corp. received the Committed to the Environment award from The International Charter for clear commitment to understanding its environmental impact and reducing it. “We were very impressed with the efforts FedEx is making, in particular with regard to reducing conventional energy consumption, as well as using cleaner vehicles in their distribution fleet,” says Steve Fortes, director of International Charter. “FedEx is leading the way in understanding environmental impact and addressing it.”

FedEx says the International Charter recognized its commitment to the environment as outstanding because:
• The company has championed the development of hybrid technology compatible with its delivery trucks;
• The FedEx EarthSmart @ Work initiative represents a best-in-class program for spreading sustainable thinking through the different levels of the organization;
• The company has increased FedEx Express vehicle efficiency by 14.1 percent since 2005, ahead of projections and on schedule for a 20 percent reduction by 2020; and
• The company is making good progress in the fields of renewable energy, and has doubled onsite solar generation to 3.92 MW.

“FedEx is honored to receive this award from The International Charter as we seek to connect the world in responsible and resourceful ways,” says Mitch Jackson, FedEx Corp. vice president of environment and sustainability. “Through major goals, established in 2008, like seeking to increase our vehicle efficiency and reduce our aircraft emissions intensity by 20 percent by 2020, a wide range of team members can contribute to reducing our environmental impact while assisting our customers.”
