EnerSys announced the grand opening of its new battery manufacturing facility in Shuangqiao District, Chongqing, China. In addition to the company’s two existing Chinese production facilities, the new plant will provide capacity to meet increasing customer demand in the telecommunications, nuclear power utility and uninterruptible power supply industries, as well as motive power customers. The new plant located near the geographic center of China is about 400,000 square feet and eventually will employ more than 1,100 people.

“Demand for our products both in China and throughout the Asian markets remains strong,” says John Craig, chairman, president and chief executive officer. “This new facility will serve both existing as well as new customers in the region. It is a state-of-the-art facility, which is one of our four largest of our 31 production facilities globally and is anticipated to generate $150 million in revenue annually when fully operational.”
