trucksPreliminary data from FTR this week shows Class 8 net orders in October rose 39 percent from September orders and totaled 25,960 in the month.

The rise in net orders also put October 14 percent higher than the same month in 2012 and the strongest month for net orders since December 2011. The rolling three-month period ending with October annualizes to 244,500 net orders.

The report includes orders numbers for all major North American truck manufacturers.

FTR VP Don Ake says the numbers rose for all OEMs, and truck orders may be strengthening quicker than the firm expected. “The increase in orders is broad-based and not isolated to any one OEM.  The number is at the high end of our expectations and will likely help to solidify build activity in the short term.  The three month annualized rate is right in line with our 2014 forecast.”
