Motor carriers running 2007 year-model reefer units in California must purchase a diesel particulate filter for their reefer engines by Friday, Oct. 31, to be in compliance with the states reefer emissions regs.
By purchasing a Level 3 verified retrofit DPF by the Oct. 31 deadline, reefer owners then have until Dec. 31 to install the device — essentially a compliance extension offered by the California Air Resources Board.
Reefer unit owners who do not purchase a filter by the Oct. 31 deadline will not given a compliance extension.
To qualify for the compliance extension, which gives carriers until Dec. 31 to have the filter installed, carriers must register their refrigerated units with CARB’s Equipment Registration system and submit an application to CARB with the required documentation by Dec. 31, in addition to meeting the Oct. 31 purchase deadline.
