FlowBelow introduced a redesigned version of its Trailer AeroSlider System, an aerodynamic add-on for trailers that the company claims reduces fuel consumption by 3 gallons for every 1,000 miles traveled when also equipped with trailer wheel covers.
The AeroSlider alone accounts for just more than 1.5 gallons of savings.
The launch of the updated system, unveiled at the American Trucking Associations' Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte Sunday, coincides with near-record diesel prices, which averaged $6.179 a gallon nationally in mid-October following a record high of $6.529 in September, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
At current fuel costs, the system saves approximately $18.54 in fuel per 1,000 miles.

Josh Butler, president and chief technology officer of FlowBelow, said the company's original goal was to develop a system that offered a return on investment in under 18 months based on $3-per-gallon diesel.
“At today’s fuel prices, payback can be less than 12 months," Butler said, "even for fleets whose trailers travel as little as 30,000 miles per year.”
Originally introduced in 2018, the newly redesigned AeroSlider features a single fairing that replaces the previous design's separate center and rear fairings.
The streamlined system weighs under 30 pounds and installs in less than 45 minutes. It combines wheel covers, flow-through mud flaps, and rear fairings to reduce turbulence around the trailer's wheels, suspension and underbody. Because the hardware mounts directly to the sliding suspension, Butler said it continues to provide aerodynamic benefits even when fleets reposition the tandem for different loads, requiring no active driver involvement.
Independent testing conducted by MVT Solutions in June 2026 verified the company's fuel-saving claims. Testing showed that the rear fairings and flow-through mud flaps accounted for 1.77 gallons of fuel saved per 1,000 miles, while the wheel covers saved an additional 1.23 gallons per 1,000 miles.
The Trailer AeroSlider is available directly from FlowBelow for retrofit installations on dry van or reefer trailers and can be specified on new equipment through participating trailer manufacturers.
