Freight technology companies Highway and Motive have reached an agreement to restore the frequency at which Highway accesses Motive customers’ electronic logging device data, ensuring uninterrupted service for carriers and brokers who rely on both platforms.
The resolution follows a short-lived disruption detailed in a memo Highway sent to compliance leaders Thursday. According to the document, Motive had previously imposed immediate limitations on its API connection to the Highway platform, which restricted how frequently Motive ELD data could be refreshed, obscuring these vehicles from the brokers' view.
Motive had indicated that Highway should pay for access to carrier data. In the memo, Highway contends that it does not charge carriers and did not wish to begin doing so to maintain the ELD connection.
With access now restored subject to carrier authorization, the companies said the new agreement underscores a shared commitment to providing motor carriers with transparency and control over how their data is used.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed but Highway and Motive are currently negotiating updates to their existing contract to better reflect current use cases. The tech firms also plan to collaborate on improving data fidelity, reducing latency and enhancing the overall experience for brokers and carriers across the freight ecosystem.
The companies noted that carriers and brokers do not need to take any action to maintain their service.
“Motive and Highway both play important roles in the freight ecosystem, and we are committed to serving customers together,” Highway CEO Jordan Graft said. “We have a clear path forward that protects carrier choice and allows us to continue improving the experience for brokers and carriers.”
Motive CEO Shoaib Makani emphasized the necessity of industry collaboration moving forward.
“Our carriers depend on an ecosystem of partners to run their businesses,” Makani said. “We are pleased to have reached a path forward with Highway that supports our customers and provides clarity around data use.”
