Daimler set to layoff 1,200 workers due to sluggish truck orders
Daimler Trucks North America has announced it will cut roughly 1,240 workers this month due to 2016’s slowdown in Class 8 truck orders and forecasts for orders to continue to remain sluggish. DTNA is the parent company of Freightliner, Western Star and Detroit. Volvo and Mack also announced truck-order-related layoffs this year.

The agencies introduced the proposed rule last June that will begin taking effect for model year 2018 trailers and 2021 for tractors. The plan goes through 2027, when the entire vehicle – engine, truck and trailer – will be required to meet the standards.
