PeopleNet, a provider of Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems, announced that it has expanded its partnership with Maptuit Corp. to offer navigation that further improves in-cab efficiencies, reduces out-of-route miles and improves safety.

“This unique integration between NaviGo, the dispatch system and Pacos Geofencing and Automated Messaging application takes driver efficiency and accuracy to a new level,” says Matt Voda, PeopleNet vice president of product management. “Eliminating manual data entry makes life easier for the driver and avoids costs caused by inaccurate addresses. On a broader scale, this is another example of how we’re continuing to use our open platform to drive the movement from silo applications to tighter integration that supports more automated communication between the cab and the back office.”

Instead of having the driver enter addresses for each stop, the automated workflow captures the actual arrival time at each stop and prompts the driver to be routed to the next stop through in-cab navigation. The driver’s stop information is sent automatically to NaviGo, and initiation of the next route is automated as the driver leaves a location —all without any driver interaction.

“PeopleNet’s unique integration with NaviGo not only offers a more efficient in-cab navigation process, but also a more accurate one by eliminating the potential for driver entry of erroneous addresses,” says Luke Wachtel, Maptuit’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “Since mistakes may cause liability and safety issues and out-of-route miles, this is a significant advancement.”

The system also provides Maptuit’s various NaviGo Fuel enhancements as well as hazardous materials routing. NaviGo Fuel includes the option to search for the best fuel stations within a given radius or along a designated route. Because NaviGo is an Internet-connected application, those stations can be sorted dynamically by the fuel price at the pump or within a fleet’s specific network if that fleet has negotiated its own discount fuel pricing.
