Greg Hewitt, president of Heil Trailer International, this week signed an environmental policy statement for the company’s environmental management system on the heels of Earth Day 2010. HTI, based in Athens, Tenn., says the signing reinforces and formalizes its commitment to set new environmental standards of excellence in its industry.

“We recognize our responsibility to conduct our operations as a good global citizen in providing our customers with high-quality products and services that are not harmful to our employees or the environment,” says Hewitt. “Our policy is to be a responsible corporate citizen wherever we operate by protecting our personnel, surroundings and achieving sustainability through responsible health, safety and environmental management and performance.”

In order to accomplish the above, HTI is moving toward certification to ISO Standard 14001 (environmental) and ISO Standard 18001 (health and safety) by late 2011. Most of HTI’s facilities already are certified to ISO Standard 9001 (Quality), and HTI’s Argentina facility already is certified to the ISO Standard 14001.
