KLLM Transport Services (No. 39 on the CCJ Top 250) is implementing new measures to prevent cargo theft.

The company announced it is installing Power In-Lock internal locking systems on its fleet of trailers. The locks are remote-controlled, deadbolt-style locks developed by Q Products & Services.

KLLM said it can now provide shippers with documented proof their product wasn’t compromised during transit, as the system keeps track of all lock and door activity.

“This locking mechanism will offer our customers an even higher measure of security against theft, tampering, or any event that may pose a threat to the integrity of the product,” said KLLM President and CEO Jim Richards. “Our doors are locked electronically from our Jackson headquarters as soon as the trailer is loaded, and the trailer is locked from the inside, totally out of sight and out of reach of thieves.”

According to recent reports from cargo theft reporting firm FreightWatch, the number of cargo thefts in the United States has been on the rise recently. In May, FreightWatch reported an 8 percent increase in cargo thefts in 2016’s first quarter when compared to the same time period last year.
