Phillips Connect Technologies’ TrailerNet telematics system uses Fleet Complete’s Connvex cloud-based architecture and promises to unify trailer sensor data from multiple component manufacturers onto a single platform and provide real-time data visibility.Phillips Industries said it has made significant strides in the development of its Phillips Connect Technologies’ TrailerNet, an open and agnostic platform to connect sensor-driven components and bring Internet of Things-like technology to trailer safety and security.
After one year, PCT – originally launched at the 2017 American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council Annual Meeting – now has inked partnerships with 16 partner component suppliers, including Fontaine, Haldex, Hendrickson, SAF Holland, Meritor PSI, Maxon and Stemco.
“Owners of these companies realize the best solution going forward is for everyone to work together to create a universal platform that allows fleets and trailer OEMs to choose which suppliers they want,” said Bill Ellis, PCT managing director.
Gerry Mead, executive director of innovation at Phillips Industries, says PCT was developed to reduce the number of data plans and reporting programs coming from the trailer.
“All these suppliers are out there developing smart components but didn’t have the ability for those components to communicate back through one central hub,” said Mead. “PCT combines all these suppliers’ smart components and communicates that data back to the fleet through one hub.”
After a recently formed partnership with Fleet Complete, PCT’s TrailerNet will be powered by Fleet Complete’s Connvex cloud-based platform to provide real-time visibility into all smart components on the trailer. Drivers and fleet managers can see immediate status of trailers on the system’s platform and web portal.
TrailerNet is comprised of four major components:
- A sensor distribution module (SDM) central hub through which all data flows and an internal modem for the TrailerNet telematics platform;
- A Sensor interface board (SIB), installed just downstream from sensors to translate sensor data into a universal language before sending it to the SDM;
- Proprietary electrical harnessing using IP69-rated connectors to allow sensors to be daisy-chained inline with plug-and-play connectivity, and;
- A modified nosebox that houses the standard J560 connection and keypad for manual override of the PCT door lock and Trailer Lockdown component features.
