The for-hire trucking industry added 1,000 new payroll jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly unemployment report.

EIA says diesel price unchanged, ProMiles reports small drop
The national average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel did not change from the prior week in the week ended Monday, Oct. 21., remaining at $3.886, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

Diesel price down a cent, remains down nearly 30 cents from 2012
The national average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel fuel dropped one cent in the week ended Oct. 14 to $3.834, according to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index. The national average is 29.2 cents lower than the same week in 2012.

Trucking conditions improve in August, but hours impact approaching says FTR
The Trucking Conditions Index, produced monthly by FTR Associates, moved to a reading of 9.52 in August, which FTR is calling “an expected peak” before the conditions begin to deteriorate. Watch out for Washington, too, FTR says.

Diesel price projections for 2013 and 2014 see significant drops
The DOE has once again changed its projection for diesel prices in 2013, this time downwardly revising an early September forecast that it would average $3.96 a gallon to this week’s projection that it will only average $3.93 a gallon.
