FMCSA publishes rule eliminating no-defect Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is scheduled to publish Thursday, Dec. 18, a Final Rule that will eliminate the requirement that truck drivers keep and submit Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports when no defects have been found.

Restart changes become law; FMCSA required to study, compare two driver sets
President Obama Dec. 16 signed the appropriations bill that halts enforcement of the requirement that a drivers’ 34-hour restart include two 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. periods and the once-per-week limit of the restart. Aside from the suspension of the restart provisions, however, the law requires FMCSA to study the rules’ impacts on drivers, carriers and safety.

Though the bill requires the agency to publish a notice in the Federal Register announcing the changes, the 2015 appropriations bill allocates no money to the enforcement of the rules, therefore nullifying them when the bill becomes law.
