DOT officially floats HOS changes that would alter 14-hour clock, 30-minute break
The U.S. DOT has officially announced proposed changes to federal hours of service regulations for truck operators. Chiefly, the proposed changes, if made final, would allow drivers to pause their 14-hour clock for up to three hours in a shift and go off-duty in that time period.

A Missouri-based trucker was driving in a work zone along I-465 eastbound in Indianapolis on July 14 when his truck, traveling faster than the posted speed limit, hit a line of cars. Two young children and their mother were killed, and seven others were hospitalized.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance announced commercial vehicle inspectors conducted 10,358 inspections across the U.S. and Canada and sidelined 1,667 (16.1%) of those trucks.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s internal watchdog has concluded that a 2017 EPA study used to promote limiting production of glider kit trucks was “consistent” with the agency’s research standards and, therefore, the study’s conclusions shouldn’t be dismissed.
