Fleetworthy's new AI-powered insights helps fleets identify toll leakage

Fleetworthy, a provider of compliance, toll, bypass and safety technology, has embedded an AI layer into its platform that surfaces insights derived from a fleet’s tolling data, and the fleets that tested it in beta have already realized benefits.

“They've been able to quickly identify toll leakage that otherwise was difficult to find,” Fleetworthy Chief Product Officer Shay Demmons shared during a media briefing Wednesday at the Fleetworthy Roadshow event, held this year in Nashville, where customers can share feedback and best practices. The growing event will be hosted next year in October as Fleetworthy Forward in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Fleetworthy RADAR (Real-time AI, Decisioning and Automated Resolution) launched today within Fleetworthy Toll Management (formerly Bestpass) with limited access. The general release is expected in Q1 next year as the company expands the technology in beta across its other services, including weigh station bypass, safety and compliance.

RADAR serves up fleet-specific insights cards on the Fleetworthy dashboard, enabling fleets to use their data to proactively inform operational decisions. Those cards include toll anomalies, spending trends and cost-saving opportunities, and users can click to expand them and see the reasoning behind the insight. It also provides recommended next steps as well as a functionality that Demmons noted beta customers found extremely helpful: the ability to ask questions about their toll activity, such as “What are my top five vehicles on toll spend” or “Tell me where my transponders are.”

This data has always been available but not as easily accessible.

“If you think of tolling and you think of these other areas (bypass, safety and compliance), there's a lot of information. Historically, there are a lot of reports that administration would have to look through to try and figure out where they want to focus,” Demmons said. “What we really want to do is focus on safety concerns, things that might keep the assets or drivers off the road, toll leakage, (etc.) … and bring those things up to the surface so that the back office can focus more on what’s going to help move the economics of their fleet forward.”

Now, fleets can save time and increase efficiency by eliminating the need to run reports, analyze them and determine the most valuable information before taking action.

What’s next?

The RADAR roadmap includes implementing AI that can act on behalf of the fleet.

Fleetworthy plans to introduce workflows next year, going beyond recommended actions to guiding the user to a resolution. Additionally, the company plans to roll out RADAR AI assistant, which will offer the option to automate those resolutions. Examples include ordering a transponder or disputing a toll.

Demmons said Fleetworthy relied on its customers to determine which toll insights to include and will do the same when delivering workflows and the upcoming insights into weigh station bypass, safety and compliance, which would include, for example, which assets or drivers are noncompliant.

“(Customers) are pushing us with the compliance and the bypass to bring those in because they see the value of bringing this data together,” Demmons said. “… You think of bypass and how it's connected to the risk score and being able to tie those things together and say, "Here are areas that are going to impact not only your risk profile but delays you may see on the road. We want to interconnect those things where you can start to say, ‘Holistically, what is going to have the biggest impact on my business in terms of cost, risk and compliance.’”

Getting here

Unifying insights across all its services is possible, Demmons said, because of Fleetworthy’s data foundation and heavy investment in the technology to connect the backend of its products. Fleetworthy President and Chief Revenue Officer Mike Precia credits Demmons for that foundation.

“The reason we can leverage AI in a solution like RADAR is because we did all the work at the data level,” Precia said. “We knew we had a data lake that was very valuable because of how long we've been in business and the horizontal nature of the individual solutions, but rationalizing the data — making sure that we can layer on top of things that are very valuable to customers — was important.”

He added that Fleetworthy targeted some of the companies it has recently acquired, highlighting Haul, because of their headway with AI. Demmons noted the goal was to escalate AI deployment internally and customer-facing.

Bestpass, a toll management and payment platform for commercial vehicles, acquired fleet safety, compliance and risk management platform Fleetworthy Solutions in 2023, becoming Bestpass-Fleetworthy, which acquired connected truck and weigh station network operator Drivewyze in 2024. Bestpass-Fleetworthy rebranded to Fleetworthy later that year.

In 2025, Fleetworthy acquired AI-powered compliance and safety automation technology provider Haul and commercelogic, which provides predictive tolling and GPS-powered analytics.

Precia confirmed that Fleetworthy will continue that momentum.

“We are always on the lookout for best-of-breed targets that can help us build this vision we have, so you will definitely see some more acquisitions,” he said.

PrePass intelligence

Another weigh station bypass, toll, safety and compliance solutions provider has also rolled out new fleet intelligence capabilities. PrePass has launched the first phase of PrePass Intelligence, which uses bypass, safety, toll and available vehicle GPS data to help fleets quantify the value of weigh station bypass, optimize toll spend and identify exceptions. Forecast CSA also provides earlier visibility into potential fleet safety and compliance impacts.

These are the key offerings:

  • Unifies inspection, violation and bypass insights to identify patterns, anticipate potential ISS score impacts, and act sooner across safety and operations.
  • Illustrates the value of bypass with fleet-specific calculations that show driver time, fuel and estimated operating costs saved based on actual bypass activity rather than industry averages.
  • Identifies additional bypass opportunities, highlighting where adding eligible vehicles, transponders or the PrePass mobile app could generate additional savings.
  • Optimizes toll spend by consolidating AI Toll Insights, toll-rate savings, violation savings, dispute credits and volume discounts into one view.
  • Identifies likely maximum-rate toll overcharges and disputes eligible transactions on the customer’s behalf.
  • Spots operational issues sooner by correlating bypass, toll and available GPS data to identify transponder mismatches, assignment issues and possible fraudulent or unauthorized activity.
  • Predicts potential compliance impacts with Forecast CSA, which estimates how points from recent inspection activity may affect a fleet’s ISS score before those changes appear in standard reporting.

“A bypass, a toll transaction or an inspection is just an event. The real value comes from understanding what those events mean to the business,” said PrePass Chief Technology Officer Chas Wurster. “Because PrePass operates across bypass, tolling and compliance, we see operational signals that often exist in separate systems. PrePass Intelligence helps fleets understand and focus on the most meaningful events, what they mean to the business and where action is needed.”
