Indicators: Flatbed rates dip, reefer and van climb
Per-mile rates on the spot market mostly showed positive movement in November, according to monthly transactional data from Truckstop.com. Rates for van and reefer gained several cents in the month, while flatbed rates tumbled a few cents, likely due to seasonality of the flatbed segment.

The for-hire trucking industry added 1,100 jobs in November, according to the Department of Labor’s most recent report. The highlight of the month’s employment report, however, was the DOL’s upward revision of October’s figures, which now show a 6,800-job gain.

Employers and medical review officers will be required to report information about positive drug test results, alcohol test results greater than 0.04 blood alcohol content, refusals to test and other non-test violations of FMCSA’s drug and alcohol regulations to the database.
