Cross-border trucking expanded: FMCSA now allowing all Mexican carriers to apply for authority
Mexican motor carriers will soon be able to apply for authority to operate in the U.S. beyond the commercial border zone, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Jan. 9. The move brings the U.S. into more complete compliance with the requirements of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Department of Transportation says.

Trucking employment rallies in December, adding 7,300 jobs
The for-hire trucking industry added 7,300 jobs in December on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the Department of Labor’s monthly employment report. The U.S. as a whole in December added 252,000 nonfarm jobs, dropping the U.S. unemployment rate to 5.6 percent.
