A year-long study of trucking industry trends in social media was recently completed by TrueVoice on behalf of GE Capital, Transportation Finance. The study involved a search of 250 million online outlets and revealed the most common areas of conversation.

U.S. diesel price rises for first time since June
The national average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel rose 5.4 cents in the week ended Nov. 3 to $3.67, according to the Energy Department. The increase snaps an 18-week streak of drops (except for one week in September in which the price saw no change) and is the largest week-to-week price increase since last September.

Trucking adds 3,900 jobs in October as U.S. unemployment rate falls to 5.8%
The for-hire trucking industry added 3,900 jobs in October on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the Department of Labor’s monthly employment report. The DOL also upwardly revised the number of trucking jobs for August and September, with August getting an additional 1,500 jobs and September another 1,800.

Per-mile rates on the spot market fell for the fourth straight month in October, mostly in line with seasonal trends, but they remained strong and much higher than Octobers in recent years, according to data released Nov. 3 by Internet Truckstop.
