Proposed truck speed governor rule hints at 60, 65 and 68 mph as limits
Sometime within the next few years, truck speeds will likely be electronically governed to somewhere between 60-mph and 68-mph, according to a proposed DOT rule released Aug. 26. The agencies did not formally propose a speed to which trucks should be limited, but they did issue analysis on three speeds: 60 mph, 65 mph and 68 mph.

Tanker group petitions DOT about California meal, rest break requirements for hazmat carriers
The National Tank Truck Carriers says California’s rules, which entitles drivers to paid 30-minute meal break periods after five and 10 hours of work, prohibits carriers from requiring an employee to work during these breaks, violating best practices and load attendance requirements for hazmat haulers, the group says.

Rule to set minimum driver training standards moves step closer to publication
If the Final Rule matches up with the proposed rule released earlier this year in March, FMCSA will implement a core curriculum for new truckers receiving their CDL and require them to receive 30 hours of behind-the-wheel training before being issued the license.

FMCSA seeking feedback on pilot program for under-21, military-trained truckers
The proposed program would allow a limited number of military-trained drivers between the ages of 18 and 21 to operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce.
