The House aviation billâs trucking-specific provisions would prevent prevent states from requiring carriers and truckers to comply with state meal and rest break laws if they exist. It would also block states from enacting state-level driver pay reform. The Senate, however, did not include such language in its FAA authorization bill.

DOT grants carriers 60 more days to comment on rule to revamp carrier rating system
The rule would replace the current three-tier rating system of âSatisfactory, Conditional and Unsatisfactoryâ for motor carriers with a single determination of âUnfit.â An Unfit determination would require the carrier to either improve its operations or be shut down. FMCSA decided to provide the extension to give âall interested parties adequate time to submit comments on proposals in this rulemaking.â

DOT proposes entry-level driver training rule, would institute standard curriculum, minimum behind-the-wheel time
FMCSA is set to publish Monday, March 7 a proposed rule that, if made final, would implement a required core curriculum for new entrant truck drivers receiving their CDL and require them to receive 30 hours of behind-the-wheel training time. It also would establish a registry of FMCSA-approved trainers.
