DOT says its Federal Automated Vehicles Policy was developed to help hasten the development of autonomous vehicles while also addressing safety issues âat the front-end of development,â DOT says.

The trailerâs âwhite sideâŚagainst a brightly lit skyâ caused the carâs Autopilot system to fail to register the full-sized tractor-trailer crossing the highway, Tesla said in a blog post on its site. The Autopilot system is still in public beta testing, Tesla says, and users are warned before using the system that the technology is new and that drivers should not take their hands off the wheel.
