Colonial Pipeline representatives said the gasoline pipeline, Line 1, will likely remain shut down the rest of this week. Line 2, which transports diesel, jet fuel and other distillates, was restarted late Oct. 31 and is expected to remain in operation.

The Department of Transportation announced Nov. 1 it is giving carriers and industry stakeholders an extra 30 days to formally comment on its proposed rule to govern truck speeds. Comments are now due by the end of the day Dec. 7.

OOIDA argued that the rule violates truckers’ Fourth Amendment rights, and also didn’t meet Congress’ standards for an ELD mandate, but the court rejected both arguments. The group filed the lawsuit in March.

FMCSA committees formally recommend requiring truckers with high BMI to be screened for sleep apnea
Truck operators with a Body Mass Index of 40 or higher would be flagged for sleep apnea screening if the recommendations are made law. Truckers with a BMI of 33 or higher would also be subject to screening if they meet three other qualifiers, a list that includes being male and being older than 42 — a large demographic in the trucking industry.

FMCSA further eases regulations for military vets transitioning to trucking
The exemption allows state driver licensing agencies (SDLAs) to choose whether or not to waive the knowledge test for qualified learner’s permit and CDL applicants. FMCSA is also allowing SDLAs to establish their own requirements and procedures of verifying the eligibility of the applicants.
