The amount of freight moved by the for-hire trucking industry, as measured by the American Trucking Associations’ monthly Truck Tonnage Index, jumped 7.2 percent in February, pushing the index to its highest reading on record. ATA’s Chief Economist, however, cautions the industry to “not read too much into it.”

Cargo theft in the United States may be worrisome, with an average of more than two incidents per day nationally, according to FreightWatch International, but it’s even worse in Mexico, which averages almost three cargo theft incidents per day.
