The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Oct. 1 it has concluded the data collection phase of the Congressionally required study on 2013’s 34-hour restart rules. It has now begun the data analysis phase and says it hopes to produce a report by year’s end.

General Motors and Navistar have reached a long-term agreement to develop and assemble medium-duty, conventional cab Class 4 and 5 commercial vehicles, the companies announced Sept. 29. Navistar says, confirming rumors of late that the two were set to strike a deal on medium-duty vehicles.

CVSA sees record low for out-of-service violations during Roadcheck 2015
Nearly a quarter of the 44,989 trucks hit with a Level I inspected during the Roadcheck 2015 inspection blitz in June were placed out-of-service, according to numbers reported Sept. 28 by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. CVSA inspected just shy of 70,000 trucks and buses in total.
