ATA report: Driver shortage growing faster than expected, will hit 50k by year’s end
The trucking industry is expected to be short nearly 50,000 drivers by the end of the year, according to a report released Oct. 6 by the American Trucking Associations. That’s a roughly 30 percent jump from 2014’s shortage of 38,000.

Stay Metrics aims to reduce early driver turnover with new research, predictive tools
Stay Metrics, providers of a driver engagement and research platform, has a new set of products that give fleets deeper insights into why their drivers are leaving.

In this real-life example, Stay Metrics used its predictive turnover model to find a unique “predictive index” for one fleet (in green). The index shows the likelihood that drivers will leave based on responses to certain questions in Stay Metrics’ annual driver satisfaction survey (shown on x-axis). Drivers responded to questions using a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest level of satisfaction. The red line shows what happens when the carrier’s predictive index was applied to other Stay Metrics clients: nothing stands out. This shows that each fleet has unique predictors for turnover.

C&K Trucking chooses driver rewards from Stay Metrics; turnover falls 11 percent
Within the first three months, C&K Trucking saw its already low turnover rate decrease by 11 percent, measured on an annualized basis, compared to the same period in 2014. With improved retention of drivers, C&K Trucking has been able to increase its fleet size by 12 percent since February.
