Carrier scoring Safety Fitness Determination rule ready for publication following OMB clearance
A proposed federal rule that would give the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration another means to score and target unsafe carriers has cleared the White House’s Office of Management and Budget. The so-called Safety Fitness Determination rule cleared the OMB late last week and is now in the hands of the DOT, ready for publication when it chooses.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has scheduled the final version of its rule to mandate electronic logging devices for truck operators to be published Wednesday, Dec. 16. Carriers and drivers will have two years from that publication date to comply — Dec. 16, 2017.
